Challenge
McFarling Law Group needed a central place to store case information and documents, along with a better way to keep clients engaged throughout their cases.
Based in Las Vegas, Nevada, McFarling Law Group is a family law firm led by Managing Attorney Michael Burton. Founded by attorney Emily McFarling as a solo practice in 2003, the firm has grown while keeping client experience at the center of its work.
Company: McFarling Law Group
Raised collectability from around 60% to as high as 80–85%
Turned a two-person client intake process into a one-person job
Increased client satisfaction with a secure portal for communications
McFarling Law Group needed legal practice management software built around one thing: the client experience. As the firm grew, important details were scattered across different systems, making it harder to keep clients confident and informed about their case.
"What I really needed was a way to store case information and documents in a central place," says Managing Attorney Michael Burton. "MyCase was, to the tee, the software I had envisioned. When I first saw it, I knew it was exactly what we needed."
Family law clients rarely call on their best day, and McFarling Law Group operates around that reality. Cases can stretch on for months, and clients want reassurance that things are moving even when there's nothing new to report.
With MyCase, clients can access case updates, invoices, messages, and calendar events through a secure portal anytime, from any device—access that matters most in the moments clients feel most anxious about their case.
"It gives our office the illusion of being open 24 hours a day," Michael says. "There's an express understanding that they'll get a response shortly, which is comforting to them. MyCase is super simple and our clients really do love it."
Family law runs on a high volume of billing, and payments are easy to lose track of. A single missed invoice or an incorrectly entered payment can snowball into bigger cash flow problems over time. "Anything we can do to remove the human element from collections leads to far fewer slip-ups, increases our collection rate, and makes everyone's jobs easier,” says Michael.
Client intake has tightened up too. Signing a new client used to mean multiple steps and multiple people just to get someone into the system. With MyCase's lead management and online intake forms, that's no longer the case.
"The most recent game changer that we've really utilized is the leads feature," Michael says. “We simply send clients a digital intake form…they fill it out, [and] all their information is automatically populated under their lead. What was once a two-person process is now a one-person job because of MyCase."
With MyCase, McFarling Law Group turned a slow, uncertain billing process into one of its biggest strengths, simplified intake, and gives clients the round-the-clock access that keeps them coming back.
